AINA’s work programme for the period 2008-11 can be downloaded by clicking here. (1.4mb)

The work programme is aimed at addressing the needs of operational, statutory navigation authorities that manage ‘live’ waterways.  The content of the new work programme represents an intended shift in emphasis compared to the previous AINA Action Plan for 2005-08 which has now been completed.  It is less focused on specifying project outputs and timetables for their delivery, and more focused on identifying realistic and achievable outcomes in relation to a small number of high priority issues that face navigation authorities.  This approach will afford AINA greater flexibility to act much more as a representative body to greater effect for the benefit of both navigation authorities and government.

The work programme is focused on addressing five key priority issues that face navigation authorities.  They are:

1

Facilitating processes by which navigation authorities can gain access to higher levels of funding to maintain and develop their waterways for a range of uses for the benefit of all in their communities

2

The need to modernise the legal powers of navigation authorities

3

Working with government and stakeholders to assist the development and implementation of legislation and regulations in a cost-effective and proportionate way to minimise unnecessary or inappropriate cost burdens for navigation authorities

4

The safety of all users, waterway professionals and volunteers, and the associated legal liabilities of navigation authorities

5

Improving the collection, collation and communication of good quality industry-wide data and statistics

AINA delivers work by a variety of means including:
