Residential use of inland waterways
AINA originally launched this document in September 2010. Residential use is a very complex issue and the document required the input and expertise of many people both within and outside the AINA membership. It is a meaningful, factual and non-contentious document for navigation authorities, planners and waterway stakeholders. It has recently been refreshed to take account of several recent events, including the new government’s move away from very specific planning policy guidance, an interesting planning enforcement appeal decision which usefully helps to illustrate several points in the document’s planning section and the publication of British Waterways’ national policy in relation to residential moorings, following formal public consultation. Whilst the essence of the document and majority of the content are unchanged, the amendments will ensure the document stays relevant to the current context for our inland waterways.
